Food & Drink Labels

Stand out with cutting-edge food & drink labels

We’re passionate about labelling for the Food & Drinks industry. Not just because we love our food and drink, but we also love the design element of it – we get a kick out of seeing our food labels on display on supermarket shelves.
We think the UK is paving the way for food and drink labels. It’s modern and cutting-edge, and we’re proud to be a part of it.

What information has to be on a food label?

The Nutrition Facts Label is used to communicate important information about the food consumers eat. The FDA also governs what label format to use on your product based on package size and contents.

The Nutrition Facts Label must show:

  • Serving size (Consult the RACC to determine this)
  • Household measure/common household unit
  • Servings per container
  • Mandatory nutrients (total calories, total fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, sodium, total carbohydrate, dietary fibre, total sugars, added sugars, protein, vitamin D, calcium, iron, potassium)

Placement: In general, place the Nutrition Facts Label on the PDP or the Information Panel, near the ingredient statement.

Why is food labelling important?

Not only is food labelling a legal requirement for food producers, but it also helps customers make better informed purchasing decisions, as well as helping them store and ultimately consume the produce correctly following purchase.

How are allergens required to be listed on food and drink labels?

In accordance with the Food Standards Agency, in the ingredients list, allergenic ingredients must be emphasised in some way to help differentiate them from other ingredients on the list. This can be done by listing them in bold, contrasting colours or by underlining them.

What are the guidelines for labelling food and drinks with expiration dates?

It is essential that any expiration dates are declared on food or drink products. Often referred to as "Use by' dates, products, which from a microbiological POV are highly perishable and therefore likely to constitute an immediate danger to human health. After the “use by” date, food is “deemed unsafe and it is a criminal offence to sell it.”
