Wine produced in or imported to the UK must comply with regulations on wine labelling. The description 'Wine' must be shown on the label as the category for wine without geographical designation where the provenance descriptor does not include the term 'wine'.
Wines without geographical designation are allowed to show the country as 'Wine of England (or Wales)' or 'Product of England' or 'Produced in England' instead of 'Wine of the United Kingdom' or equivalent. Other wines (Quality, Regional and sparkling) must also use one of these formats for the country.
Wine can contain allergens which may affect consumers with a food allergy or intolerance.
The following wines must include a statement on one of the labels if any of the 14 allergens designated by food law are present in the product:
Wine label design is used throughout the world to communicate key information about the wine to you. First and foremost, the wine’s name helps to differentiate it from other wines within that producer’s range. More often than not, the name used will be either the region of origin or the grape variety.
The grape variety is possibly the most important factor in determining what a wine tastes like and thus, whether it is amenable to the consumer. Each variety of grape has its own characteristics which will help determine the flavour of the wine and therefore becomes something people actively seek out. It is therefore imperative that the label clearly identifies this well to the consumer.
The word “vintage” simply refers to the year in which the grapes were harvested. So, you may have noticed a year on your bottle of wine? Well, this is the year it is referring to.
The vintage date can sometimes have a significant effect on how the wine tastes so by stating the vintage date on a label, producers can help consumers decide whether or not they want to purchase that particular bottle.
Whether you want your spirits and wine bottle labels to be classic, modern, minimal, textured or NFC-smart, we’ll create a custom spirit and wine label printing solution to match your exact business requirements.
